The new 'Beauty and the Beast' ad from Audi is airing in Europe. It shows the new, pristine Audi R8 Spyder gliding through the noise of twenty-two hot rods wrapped with vintage graphics. Pyramid Visuals, a UK-based wrap company, used a variety of Avery Graphics products to create a vintage look for all of the hot rods. 

Avery Dennison vehicle wrap products were used to create dramatic graphics for the launch of the new Audi R8 Spyder. Twenty-two beaten-up old hot rods/stock cars from the U.S. were wrapped by Pyramid Visuals to play their roles in the new Audi R8 Spyder TV commercial. 

The concept and storyline involves a theme of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, depicting the new Audi as the beauty surrounded by the “beasts” in the shape of some of the most beaten-up old hot rods/stock cars in the world.

“We used Avery MPI 1005 Easy Apply on three of the American hot rods as the bodywork had been autographed by famous drivers, and that was the only material we were confident would not leave any adhesive residue – and we couldn’t risk damaging the priceless autographs,” said Justin Murray from UK-based car wrap specialists Pyramid Visuals. The Avery Graphics films were digitally printed on an HP9000 solvent printer to give each car a unique and striking design.  

Avery 700 and 800 series opaque films and Avery MPI 2000 digital films were also used on the hot rods with each one featuring a different design. The “beasts,” with all the noise and attitude of hot rods, have distinctive designs like skull and crossbones, and a mouth with big, sharp-looking teeth. They are driven around furiously, narrowly missing each other by inches.  The Audi R8 Spyder glides through the carnage and escapes unscathed, looking like the perfect hero.
