This year, 2015, marks Avery Dennison’s 80th anniversary. Avery Dennison began in 1935, with just a few spare parts and one very bright idea by Stan Avery, who invented the world’s first self-adhesive label.
In his early years, Stan always felt a strong desire to help people, and found he could do that through a business of his own. He wanted to positively impact the lives of those around him, which ultimately inspired him to establish Avery Dennison. Eighty years later, Avery Dennison remains passionate in our belief that we can make a difference for all of our stakeholders.
Today, Avery Dennison manufactures and distributes labeling and packaging materials in over 50 countries and employs more than 25,000 people worldwide. The company’s applications and technologies are an integral part of products used in every major market and industry.
At the foundation of Avery Dennison is the passion of our people -- and that’s what continues to drive our company forward. Built on a strong set of values and leadership principles, our ethical, team-based culture celebrates innovation and big, bold thinking.
Our company is focused on building sustainable momentum. That means operating a thriving business that’s a force for good—one that generates value for employees, customers, investors, and communities.
Together, we will build sustainable momentum by driving profitable growth through innovation and differentiated quality and service. That’s how we’ll protect and build on our 80-year legacy and create shared value for many generations to come.
